About Your Captain

Captain Robert Allen
I’ve lived in the Florida Keys my entire life and Key West for the past 32 years. As far back as I can remember (and before I can remember) I’ve been on and around the water. It all started when I was 6 months old and my parents put me in a crib out on Looe Key while they were diving and snorkeling all day. I guess from that day forward it somehow got in my system that I was going to love the water.
When I was in 4th grade, I would fish before school and after… seems I could never get in enough fishing.
I had my first boat when I was 11. It was a 14 foot Malibu totally tricked out and powered with a 15 hp Evinrude. Wow… the things I did with that boat. I guess it was a little payback to my parents for leaving me alone in the crib.
I grew up and joined the Key West Police Department and, now after 22 years, it seems just like yesterday when I started. I’ve met a lot of characters and great people along the way and the one thing staying consistent over the years is my love for the water. I worked up the ranks to Sergeant, working Marine Patrol as dive team leader, and now as the Port Security Director for the Port of Key West.
I have had the pleasure to work and captain for wonderful people like Don Shula, Norman Schwarzkoph, Diana DeGarmo, George Poveromo and August Busch IV.
When I’m not on the water working… I’m on the water enjoying time with friends and family. The years have given me the opportunity to learn a lot about fishing and being a Captain in the Florida Keys.
